Newborns and infants can, due to physiologically low
Spiegel can develop severe bleeding, particularly cerebral haemorrhage, due to vitamin K-dependent clotting factors. To prevent these bleeds, phytomenadione (a synthetic vitamin K1) is administered prophylactically, which is important for blood clotting in the body.
Phytomenadione (Vitamin K1) is administered to newborns and infants immediately after birth (U1), as well as during the U2 and U3 examinations.
